Importing and exporting
The desktop app supports importing and exporting recipes and books as self-contained files, making it easy to share content with anyone who has the app.
Importing from Files
- Click the Import button in the Library
- Select an .fmr file (recipe) or .fmb file (book)
- The file is extracted with all its media into your library
Importing from the Website
When you click "Open in Foodie Moiety" on the website, the app activates via a deep link:
- If you already have the item locally (matching title and producer), it opens directly
- If it's new, the app downloads and imports it automatically
Duplicate Detection on Import
If an import has the same title and producer as something already in your library, you'll be prompted to choose:
- Replace -- overwrite the existing version
- Keep Both -- import as a separate copy
- Cancel -- skip the import
Exporting a Recipe
- Open the recipe and click Export
- Save the .fmr file to your computer
- Share the file with anyone who has the Foodie Moiety desktop app
Each .fmr file is a self-contained zip with everything included.
Exporting a Book
- Open the book and click Export
- Save the .fmb file to your computer
- The file includes the book, all its recipes, and all media
Note: Purchased paid books cannot be exported.
What's Included in Exports
Exported files contain everything needed to recreate the content:
- Metadata (title, description, producer)
- Ingredients and steps/directions
- Images and videos
- Tags
- Speed ranges (video playback settings)
