Creating recipes with AI

Describe the dish you want and let Claude draft the whole recipe — title, ingredients, and step-by-step directions — then generate an image for any step with GPT. Both run on your own API keys, and everything they produce is a normal recipe you can edit like any other.

How it works

On the recipe list view, click the New Recipe button and choose Create from Claude prompt from the sub-menu. Type a description of what you want — a dish name is enough ("deep-dish pepperoni pizza"), but the more direction you give, the closer the first draft lands ("a weeknight chicken curry for four, mild enough for kids, under 45 minutes").

Claude drafts a complete recipe:

  • Title and description
  • Ingredients with quantities
  • Directions as numbered cooking steps

The result is a regular recipe in your local library — edit the ingredients, reorder steps, add your own notes, exactly as if you'd typed it yourself.

Adding step images

From the same view you can generate an image for any step using GPT's image generator — and this works on existing recipes too, not just AI-created ones. Pick a step, describe the image you want (or let it work from the step text), and generate. Don't like the result? Generate again — each attempt is independent, and you can always replace an image later with your own photo.

What you need: API keys

The AI features run on your own accounts with the AI providers, using API keys:

The two are independent: with just an Anthropic key you can create recipes (no images), and with just an OpenAI key you can generate step images for recipes you already have. The first time you use a feature, the prompt view asks for the key it needs and remembers it on your device.

What it costs

Foodie Moiety doesn't charge anything for these features — usage is billed by Anthropic and OpenAI directly to your account, at their API rates. Typical costs are small: a recipe draft or a generated image each generally run a few cents. Both providers show your usage and let you set spending limits in their dashboards.

Review before you cook

AI-drafted recipes are a starting point, not a guarantee. Read the draft the way you'd read a stranger's recipe: sanity-check quantities, temperatures, and cook times — especially anything food-safety related like meat doneness temperatures — and adjust to your taste and equipment. You know your kitchen; Claude doesn't.

Privacy note

Your API keys are stored only on your device, and your prompts go directly from the desktop app to Anthropic or OpenAI — Foodie Moiety's servers never see your keys, your prompts, or the responses. Your use of the AI features is subject to each provider's own terms and privacy policies.
