What is a moiety?

moiety [ moi-i-tee ] as defined by dictionary.com

  1. a half
  2. an indefinite portion, part, or share.

Its that second usage that suits us with regard to Foodie Moiety since one of the most useful features of the foodie moiety app is to re-use collections of steps in different recipes. We call those re-usable collections of steps “moiety”. Why? Because the definition fits mostly, but also because its a word borrowed from the world of chemistry, and what is cooking if not chemistry?! Also, its a great word if your trying to find an available internet domain name :-).

This blog is the companion to the Foodie Moiety App for Windows. Here we will be posting free recipes for the app and much more. Our goal is to make your time in the kitchen as efficient and enjoyable as possible. The Foodie Moiety App is a full featured recipe editor and viewer supporting hands free operation, images, video, plain text, markdown, and reusable step collections. Recipes created with Foodie Moiety result in a single file that you can use however you like. We will be creating recipes free for download here on foodiemoiety.com but that is just the beginning of what we are hoping to accomplish with the web site.

Users of the app are free to share their recipe files however they like, including on their own website or just with family or friends, but we’re also providing a way for you to become an author on foodiemoiety.com and publish your Foodie Moiety recipes right here. You can read more about that on the “Upload Recipes” page linked to in the header above. You can even create a Foodie Moiety Book and sell it on foodiemoiety.com! Check out the “About” page to learn more about foodiemoiety.com and the Foodie Moiety App for Windows. Feel free to leave commments below this blog post using the “ReplyBox” commenting system. Comments will be available for any recipes/articles that we post on the site. We’ll be moderating the comments of course but feel free to share your thoughts on a recipe or with regard to the context of an article so we can improve things based on your suggestions. Periodically we’ll be posting articles encouraging discussion about the Foodie Moiety App so you can share your thoughts on its strengths and weaknesses. You can also visit the “Issues” page to report bugs or any other concerns you might have about the App or the content on this site. On the right hand side column of the site you can search for articles and recipes using your own key words or by selecting a category or tag to filter content.

We also provide the option to “Search By Post Id”. Each article/recipe post has a Post Id directly under the title at the top of the post. You can see it in this post just below the title “Welcome to Foodie Moiety!” The Post Id for this welcome article is “a1”. We’ll be following a simple naming convention for Post Id on the site where the first character will be either an “a” to indicate an article or an “f” to indicate a post that includes a recipe for download. That fits with our file naming convention in the app where we use “.f” file extensions for recipe files (among others such as .m for a moiety file and .fmb for book files.). Anyway, the Post Id is an easy way to point someone to a recipe on foodiemoiety.com since they can just go to the site and enter it in the “Search By Post Id” search box on the right side of the page and be taken directly to that article.

Finally, please sign up for our newsletter! You can do that in the right hand column or in the footer of every page. We won’t spam you with a lot of unnecessary emails, we’ll just send out mail when new content becomes available on foodiemoiety.com or if there is news or updates regarding the app. We won’t share your email with anyone for any reason. Thanks for stopping by!

We encourage feedback on the articles and recipes published on foodiemoiety.com. All comments are moderated before being published. The moderation process takes time so comments will not show up immediately on posting and may be removed at the moderators discretion.
